Ravens Roost #115 – Meeting Minutes – February 23, 2011

Scott Albright, Sergeant At Arms, started us off with the Pledge of Alliance followed by a “Go Ravens”.

Chris conducted a polling of Officers and all were present.  A sign in sheet was passed around for attendance and this will be done at each meeting.  A reminder was issued that all members must attend at least one meeting per year, according to the Roost bylaws.  We certainly encourage members to attend as many meetings as possible.

Tina reported that the only change to the account balance from last month ($3,072.33) was an addition of $50 from the 50/50 proceeds. No additional expenses have been incurred.

Chris provided an update from the Baltimore Council meeting of February 18th.  There is a “Best Buddies Friendship” walk on Saturday, May 7th at the University of Maryland, College Park.  This walk benefits those individuals living with intellectual disabilities and helps them to live their lives to the utmost potential.  It is a very worthy cause and sponsorship opportunities are available.  Bonni Klein made the motion for our Roost to make a donation and it was seconded and approved.  More information will be available on the website.

T
he Council of Ravens Roost Annual Ocean City Convention will take place on June 2nd through June 5th.  Chris reviewed the agenda of events and there are lots of great activities planned. All activities will take place at Castle in the Sand on 37th Street.  Rooms are sold out at the Castle in the Sand, but Raul volunteered to review options for room availability for those who want to attend from our Roost.  There are activities planned for kids as well, so this is a family event.  T-shirts are being sold for the convention and Chris has information on this.  Shirts are $10 and are themed with the slogan “raise and conquer”.  The cost for food and drinks for the convention is $55 per person.  You will receive a pass for the weekend.  All Roosts are expected to sponsor a full page ad in the program booklet for the cost of $75.  Sponsorship opportunities are available for any other businesses who are interested.  We will spend our next meeting on March 16th (yes this is a date change from our normal meeting) discussing plans for the OC convention.

Recognition was given to Dawn Geigan for her fantastic work on our website. We have received many compliments and have been told that our website is by far the best out there.  The domain for the Roost has been changed to make it easier for people to find.  The new address is ravensroost115.com.  Thanks Dawn for all your work with the website.

A motion was raised by Chad Tracey for the Roost to determine the balance between the amount of money spent on our charities and the Roost social events. Treasurer, Tina Thomas will be putting some numbers together to share with the Officers and Board of Directors and a recommendation will be brought to an upcoming meeting for a vote.  Chris reminded everyone that all votes will be taken at the meetings and those not present at meetings will not be able to offer a vote.  This is why it is important to attend the meetings.

Carolyn Hund shared information on “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes”.  The event is on April 9th at Dutterer Family Park on Monroe Street in Westminster Park and all proceeds benefit Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County. The event is for men to walk a mile in a pair of women’s shoes.  The shoes do not have to be high heels, flats are acceptable. Several men from the Roost have agreed to participate.   Raffle tickets are available for $5.00 per ticket or $10.00 for 3 tickets for the chance to win a pair of beautiful Raven’s autographed high heels.  Information on this event will be posted on the website.

We have formed a committee for an upcoming crab feast.  Dennis Colson has volunteered to help with this event since he has lots of experience in this area. Tina Thomas, Jeff Gibbons and Dawn Geigan volunteered to be part of the committee as well.  More information to come.

A committee was formed for our upcoming Golf Outing on Friday, May 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the Links of Gettysburg.  The committee met after the meeting and will have more information to come. The committee consists of Bonni and Rick Klein, Chris Frantz, Chad Tracey, Scott Albright and Shelly McLaughlin.  Sponsorship opportunities will be available and all proceeds from the golf outing will benefit both of our charities (TRP and Pathways for Autism). Information will also be available on the website.

Twenty three people will be attending the annual Council bull and oyster roast this Saturday. Our Roost will have its own table.  We will be taking a bus and leaving from Rafael's at 5:45 p.m.

The shirt committee has finalized our charter member shirt.  Samples were shown.  We will have sign up sheets for charter member shirts at the next meeting so be sure to bring your checkbook so you can order your shirt. Once the order is placed, the shirts should be available in 2 weeks.  Other items will be available for purchase in the future (t-shirts, koozies, long sleeve shirts, hats, etc.).

Jeff Gibbons has agreed to chair a Roost pub crawl in the summer.  He will obtain information and bring it to the next meeting for review.

As mentioned above the next meeting date has been changed to Wednesday, March 16th in order for us to have more time to plan for the OC convention and so that we can have a St. Patty’s day celebration at the meeting.  The April meeting will be held on Thursday, April 28th and we will have a “football draft party”.

A 50/50 drawing was held with the proceeds being donated back to the Roost.

With no other business, the meeting was adjourned.

Upcoming Meeting Date:  Wednesday, March 16th – 6:30 p.m; Thursday, April 28th – 6:30 p.m
