Westminster Raven’s Roost #115 Meeting November 23, 2010 – 6:30 p.m. @ Rafaels

Scott Albright, Sergeant At Arms started us off with the Pledge of Alliance followed by a “Go Ravens”.

Chris reported in on the Baltimore Council meeting highlights held on 11/19/10. The Council is having their largest annual fundraiser; a bull and oyster roast which will be held on February 26th at the Patapsco Arena (3301 Annapolis Road, Baltimore, MD). It is very important that we have good Roost attendance for this event. We will request 25 tickets from the council. Please let Chris or Lori know if you plan to attend and we will provide you with tickets. Tickets are $40 which includes a buffet, band, and a chance to win prizes and an opportunity to meet Ravens players and coaches. All proceeds go to the Baltimore Council which we are a part of.

The Council of Baltimore Ravens Roost will be holding a blood drive this Saturday, November 27th from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Marriott Hunt Valley (245 Shawan Road). The goal was to get at least 200 donations, and the goal is close to being met. If you can donate call 1-800-733-2767 for an appointment. Be sure to mention that you are a member of Roost #115 so we get credit for your donation.

The annual Polar Bear Plunge will be held on Saturday, January 29th at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. Plunge times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. We would like to get a bus full of plungers or spectators to go to this event. There is a large area for Ravens Roost members to hang out. Please let Chris or Lori know if you plan to attend as a “plunger” or a spectator by our next meeting (December 22nd). All proceeds benefit the Special Olympics.

Chris also noted that 3 new potential Roosts went before the Council for acceptance. Two were voted in, however one was rejected. This is the first time a Roost has been rejected.

The annual Ravens Roost convention will be held in Ocean City, MD on June 2nd – June 5th, 2011. During this multi-day event there are a wide range of games, events, etc. to include a volleyball tournament, a parade, a dance, kite flying contest and even an opportunity to meet a Ravens player or two. All events take place at the Castle in the Sand on 37th Street. The Council is looking for a theme so if you have any ideas, let us know. More details to follow.

Tina reported that the Roost has a current balance of $3,181.27. We are still waiting for our incorporation number so that we can open a bank account. We expect this to happen in the next few weeks.

We will be getting laminated Roost membership cards at our next meeting in December. This entitles Roost members to a 10% discount at Rafaels during all NFL games, playoff games, the Super bowl and Roost meetings.

Each committee reported out on their progress:

- The shirt committee has been busy gathering samples and pricing. They met after the meeting and have a good plan for charter member shirts. They will have final details by our next meeting. A few tweaks have been made to the logo to include a change in the beak color, deleting stripes from the football and enlarging the “Westminster Roost” part. The revised logo will be posted on the website shortly so take a look. It looks fantastic.

-The membership committee has been busy contacting potential members who originally expressed interest in joining the Roost. We now have a membership form which is located on the website. We will have a stand at training camp next year. Welcome to new member Dennis Colson.

-The Charity Committee is in need of a chair and a few additional members. A charity request form has been created and will be available on the website. Contact Lori if you are interested in joining the committee.

- The events committee is just getting started with lots of good ideas. They will be working on a Super bowl party to be held at Rafaels. We will sell tickets and have good food and a large prize. Raf agreed to close the restaurant for a private event if we can get 80 people in attendance. Chad noted that we are planning a poker night at Darrin Barnes’ house after our January meeting. Bonni and Raul will meet with the owners of Great Moments and HomeGamers to see what types of items we can get for raffles/fundraising. More details to follow. It was noted that not every event will be a fundraising event, that some events will just be for Roost members to have fun.

A 50/50 raffle was held raising $140 dollars. Congratulations to Neil Myers for winning $70. The other half will go to the Roost. We will have 50/50 raffles at every meeting.

It was decided that the next meeting to be held on Wednesday, December 22nd at 6:30 p.m. will be a social gathering/holiday party for Roost members and their immediate family members. Bring your spouse or significant other and socialize with fellow Roost members. This will help us all get to know one another. Free appetizers will be available and drinks will be discounted. We are ultimately a social group and fun is important! Please bring any items/prizes to donate for our raffle. We need a head count for our event in December so please RSVP to Chris chris-frantz@hotmail.com or to Lori at lblake6675@yahoo.com no later than December 13th.

With no other new business, the meeting was adjourned.
