Meeting Minutes

The April meeting of Ravens Roost 115 was held on Wednesday April 24, 2013, at Rafael’s.  The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:00pm by President Scott Albright.  George led the Roost in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a “Go Ravens”.   A roll call of Officers and Board Members was conducted. Present were Officers:  President-Scott Albright,  Recording Secretary-Judi Carter, Corresponding Secretary – Tammy Brooks, Treasurer- Kim Harris, Sergeant at Arms- George Colburn.  Board of Directors present were:  Bobbi Koppenhaver, Dawn Geigan, Lori Blake, Mike McGinnis, and Steve Timchula.  Missing: Vice President Steve Rutzebeck

 

President’s Report:

The Council of Roosts’ main focus this month is the convention coming up the end of May.  All details are on our website.  Tim from the Warm Drawer Project was at the last meeting and donated jerseys from Flacco, Unitas and Ngata.  The newest Roost is in Canton, #130 Lighthouse Tavern.  Council has $50,000 in the bank which will be distributed soon.   Jonathan Ogden has a book coming out “Rise to Fame”. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Kim gave a Treasurer’s report.  We currently have $8,997.88 in the bank, with checks for convention registration and shirts yet to be cashed.

 

 Membership: 

 

We had 4 new members join at last meeting making it 11 total new members for April.  Welcome to Brad Jenkins, Danny “Coach” Wilson, Hollie Cushen, Ian Rohe, Melissa Fordham, Mike & Beth Armacost, Mike Golden Sr., Mike Golden Jr., Pat Zent-Burton and Shannon Hunt!

Footsteps for Hope - April 20:    This was a 2k walk.  Thanks go to Major Offense, Purple Dame & Birdman for being there for the walkers.  The Roost donated $250 and the walk raised $7,000.  We also had a booth there with Scott Albright and Dawn Geigan working the booth.  Roost Member Lori Blake walked with her daughter Ali and Dawn’s daughter Hayley Smith also walked.

Walk-A-Mile In Her Shoes - April 13:  Scott, Cork, James, Tim and Choco were our walkers.  Other members showed up to cheer at them on from the finish line and some fans walked with our guys.  Our volunteers were Bobbi Koppenhaver, Dawn Geigan and Donna Franey who worked the registration desk.  Also spotted cheering on our walkers was Judi Carter, Lew Hund and Sarah Hund-Brown.  We raised almost $1,500 for the Rape Crisis Center. 

Flower & Jazz Mart, May 11:   We have been offered a booth if we volunteer to help with set-up and tear down.  We need people to volunteer for set-up, tear-down and to watch the booth.  Please contact Dawn if you would be interested.

Convention, May 30 – June: Theme “Fly Like A Raven”.  We are in the process of reworking our float idea.  So far we have bleachers and goal posts.  Please send any ideas in.  New Roost shirts are still in the works.  For the convention people the Roost will pick up $10 of the $30 cost.   For the hospitality suite we are donating food as a Roost vs as individuals needing to bring dishes (i.e. foot-long subs, pizza or chicken).  You will still need your wristbands which you will get in your bags.

Golf Tournament, June 14: At the Gettysburg Links, registration at 12 – shot gun start at 1.  There will be a committee meeting in the next week or so.

O’s Game, July 13 vs Yankees:   We will be taking a bus to the game.  More information to come on the website.

Crab Feast, August 10:  At the VFW, 6:00pm-10:00pm.  We will need 2-3 people for a committee.  Last’s year’s was sold out.  This is also one of our biggest fundraisers.    We are raffling off a Super Bowl Football signed by Ray Lewis.  Tammy has the raffle tickets for the Ray Lewis football.  Price of the tickets is $10 each or 3 for $20.  You can also pay online.   Dennis Colson is the chair email address dlctx@comcast.net

Special Guest:

Bill & Anne McKenna from the Marriage & Relationship Education Center were on hand to discuss the affects of divorce on children, family and the community.  They offer relationship classes for children, couples and singles.  They also offer financial classes.  They work with Health Department, the school system and the YMCA.  In October they are sponsoring Date Night Carroll, to encourage couples to date 1 night per week.  Couples who date 1 night each week experience 3.5 times more general and sexual happiness.  They are looking for volunteers to help with getting restaurants, churches and other facilities to offer specials for date night couples, or babysitting.  They have an organization who will match funds for $1000, the Roost donated $100.

New Business:

Vanity plates are available from the MVA for a fee of $25 over the price of your existing tags.  See Dawn or Bobbi for paperwork. 


The Terra Rubin Golf Tournament will be on 5/31 at the Links in Gettysburg.

2nd Annual Pig Roast – September 14:  This is a PRIVATE PARTY for Ravens Roost #115 MEMBERS and their guests ONLY.  Because this is at a Member’s Home, the information will be sent via an Evite invitation directly to our members.  More information to follow.

Our next meeting will be held on May 22nd, 2013, 6:00 p.m., at the VFW .
